Mont St Michel from Saint Jean le Thomas

Mont St Michel from Saint Jean le Thomas

A view of the famous Normandy landmark of Mont St Michel from a few miles up the coast.  Painted from sketches made in September in a late summer light, the tide is on the make and the atmosphere seems fluid.

Acrylic on board.

Framed in a light grey painted pine floating frame to complement the work.

My work has recently returned to a more figurative style - but I allow that that might not always be obvious in all of my paintings! The sea and the landscape are my abiding interests. I am particularly interested in the long-lasting effect of human activity on the landscape. That explains my present preoccupation with castle ruins, old farmsteads and the managed rural mountainscapes that feature amongst my current work.

My style is my own, but I am greatly influenced by the work of other British painters; Bomberg, Lanyon, Heron, Jarman.

I am currently working on linoprints and woodcuts and a series of paintings entitled Capeli Cymru or Welsh Chapels
