Using geography books from the 1950s - 80s, an etched map of ackworth from the 1800s  and the 1908 geology map of britain. these are all sourced from the ackworth school geography department.the work is exploring juxtapositions between factually based geological diagrams and keys, photography and the imagined landscape beyond the photograph.

Geology inspires the analysis of the landscape; this has brought about a body of work primarily concerned with form. Paper based experiments currently examine landscapes as harmoniously destructive and reconstructive. The simultaneous opposing aspects of nature inspire the newest avenue of work; macrocosm and microcosm. Can the work communicate both the intricacy of the atom and the sublime of a cosmos? All aspects of the work are of equal importance; they reconstruct and experiment with geological features such as alluvial fans, the strata of rocks and different erosions whilst questioning my own perception when in the landscape. The residency at Ackworth School has instigated a new avenue of work. Old local maps from the 1800s and a geology map of Britain from 1908 were discovered in the Geography department and began the questioning of the relationship I have between Wales and Yorkshire. Mapping and contouring my own drawings have resulted in the 'Cut-Outs' body of work; they connect back to the questioning of how to communicate the landscape beyond the surface of which we see.
