I am currently a student at the university of Huddersfiled studying Fine Art: Painting and Drawing. I mainly work in acrylics but I like to explore any medium that I find interesting to work with.
"Colour confuses me. Everyday when I get up, I have to think about it."
(Batchelor.D, 2008, p.223)
Colour is a concept that I deal with on a daily basis whether it is in the context of creating art, the clothes that I wear or even the colours that appear on my dinner plate. Colour is very confusing and I find it a challenge everyday to organise my own thoughts and opinions. However it is this challenge that drives my work and stimulates thought processes to the most difficult of questions. Colour has been an important element of my work for many years continuously reoccurring. It is only now however that I have had the opportunity to develop these ideas much further and to explore different approaches.
I have a basic love of working with materials, textures, colours and shapes, all of which can be seen within my art. My influeneces are drawn for my environment and the colours that are presented to me each day.
I recently came to the decision that I needed to implement a new concept that incorporates the two varied ways in which I work (the desire to have freedom and spontaneity as well as the need to have a rigid system and process of working) and explores aspects that I am passionate about.
Therefore I adopted a way of working within my practice which involves creating separate systems for each artwork, these are designed before the work has begun and are to be abided by until the system is completed.
