Profile:

Children's book illustrator and artist specialising in paintings for children. Private commissions welcome.

A full time illustrator since 1981, I have worked on over 60 books which have been published world wide in over 12 languages. I specialise in multicultural and educational publications, mainly for pre school and primary school age children. My books are available commercially and also in schools and libraries. My work has been published by numerous publishing companies including Hodder & Stoughton (UK), McDonald & Co.(UK), Magi Publications (UK), Longmeadow Press (USA) Franklin Watts (UK) Benziger Verlag (Germany), Hachette (France), Rebo Productions (Holland), Editions Renyi (Canada) and Matthew James Publishing (UK). In addition, during my career I have been commissioned to produce illustrations for publications produced by a variety of organisations including West Africa Magazine, Amnesty International, Womens Unit of Lambeth Council, CAFOD, National Federation of Community Organisations and Liberty (formerly the National Council for Civil Liberties). In 1991 I was invited by the Publishers Association of Tanzania as a resource person on their Childrens Book Project. My role was to co-ordinate and conduct workshops and lectures during a 2 week seminar, liaising with local writers, artists and curriculum development personnel from the Tanzanian Ministry of Education. My participation was funded by the Commonwealth Foundation. The primary technical aid resource was CODE. The objective was to bring together local writers and artists and offer training in order to produce books and educational material for the children of Tanzania. Using local talent and materials this would ensure the production of relevant content at an affordable price, neither of which could be achieved by importing books from Europe and the the USA. This project is still ongoing today. In 1997 I was invited to be the primary resource person at the Book Illustrators Workshop at the Seminar of the Child Series held by the Mmofra (Childrens) Foundation in Ghana, founded 30 years ago by playwright and author Efua Sutherland. The objective of the seminar was to provide a forum for illustrators, publishers, educators and social policy makers to communicate with each other and develop a discourse on the education and development of children through books. The seminar was funded by UNICEF. I returned in 1998 and 1999 to participate in further seminars organised by the Mmofra Foundation. I am currently illustrating books for key stages 1,2 and 3 of the National Curriculum for the Department for Catholic Education and Formation of England and Wales, (UK).
