Hi my name is Karen Alvarez and I recently graduated with a degree in Fine Art and Integrated Media. I am now looking to sell and Exhibit my work. Hopefully this website might increase my profile.
Over the past few years my work has continuosly veered towards urban landscape; primarily this inspiration came from my own travelling experiences in the USA, Europe and Australia. I wished to portray the emotions that the iconic place I visited stirred up in me. I look at both architecture and the setting around, focussing on the ongoing conflict between nature and man. What is the greater force? It is this question that I attempt to address in my work. I have used the works of Piranesi, John Piper and most of all Turner as my main influences. Turner's technique of using broad sweeping brush strokes with a limited pallet to describe nature's presence is a style I have adopted.
