I am a self-taught painter, having worked with watercolour and pastels most of my life. However, not until 1980 did I become more serious about my art, when I was recovering from surgery. To 'get fit', I took to walking and it seemed natural to take a sketchbook and pencils with me, and so it began.
I have taken the occasional course with professional artists, but mostly I found myself drifting back into my own ways of working, especially whan I took up oils and acrylics.
I like to paint landscapes and seascapes and it is rare for me to depart into still-life , unless I am asked to do something in this area. I also like pen and ink, but I confess it is one medium that I have yet to make real advances with. So for a while I will be staying with colour and my favourite brushes.
I am retired now, and to be honest, I don't know where I found the time to go to work!
But then I love my painting, and if it is work, then I love my work too.
