Self-taught sculptor
Marek Szmidko (born 1975) Marek was born in Wlodawa (Poland). Following a period of work as a salesman he studied colledge. In 1995 he was taught by his frend Edwin Slazak to do some sculptures for exposition. Edwin, who introduced him to the sculptors. He completed his studies at im. Staszica College (1999), He left Poland in 2005 and moved to Crawley in England, where he has lived and worked since to 2008. .
Many of Szmidko's early works are made from found materials, discarded building materials, and disposed household materials. During tis time he made sculptures using simple techniques such as cutting and crushing. In 1998 in he collected his work and arranged them into exposition for TV and regional magazin. The first work of this kind was called 'Living Face'.
Szmidko emphasizes that his sculptures are not made in factories but by himself. He is self-taught and hi engoy his artworks.
