This was a pleasure to paint in acrylic on raised canvas as her strong features and look of focus conveys her roots. I chose the vibrant yellows, reds and blues as they are quite often associated with many African tribes. Her flexed neck is an indication that the large vessel of water, which rests on her head is weighty. The Scars are also a sign of her heritage and although substantial they are also beautiful as to her they may represent tradition, maturity and community.
