A new piece of artwork i recently finished for a warrington based exhibition. my work deals with the increasing sanitization of nature and the assumed 'cuteness' we endow often dangerous creatures with. big bear eats clive shows this conflicting world view graphically, we constantly assume from birth that bears are our watchful guardians, these gentle giants, this view is often proven tragically false.

The japanese call it 'Kawaii', it means cute, and can be applied to anything from toys and games, to the cute girls that congregate in Tokyos markets. I suppose you could call my work Kawaii, but with a darker edge, I attempt to temper harsh reality with cuteness. We constantly endow objects and in particular creatures with 'cute' qualities they in reality do not possess, it seems that harsh reality must be kept from us for as long as possible in order for us to feel comfortable. My work seeks to shatter this illusion by subverting it from the inside, whilst my work is 'cute', upon closer inspection it often becomes all the more disturbing, revealing the true nature of these creatures...
