Distant Cows

Distant Cows

This was a test for me. could i make cows in the distance with just some black and white dots? see for your self. you see what you've learned to see. you see what you know. black and white dots and spots in a landscape, could it be anything else than cows? it works for so many things either!a

Long Shadows

Long Shadows

You can see it now. when the sun starts to set, the shadows get longer and longer. you can watch them grow if you take some time. it is a fantastic play. it means we're heading fall, though it may take a while.

Early Morning At The Keuterberg

A while ago, i tried this painting a bit larger. it did not work out that well. now i tried it smaller. it seems i am having less trouble making small oils. it is less scary, i think. and that means: practice, practice, practice.it is for sale, if you are interested. for details see: http://smalloils.blogspot.com/2009/07/early-morning-at-keuterberg.html

Jiddje

I am a full time graphic designer and a half time painter. After a 21 year break I paint since May 2007 on a almost daily basis. Because I felt that I had never given painting a fair chance. Subjects of the paintings are still lifes, things in or around the house, landscapes, places in Holland we've visited or again, around the area and (commissioned) portraits. I hope you enjoy the paintings. If you have a comment, question, or would like to purchase a painting, please let me know.

Many times I find myself looking at and thinking about the (larger) paintings I am working on. What is the next step? What parts could be better? Should I change this? Should I work harder on that? This process takes several days, untill I know what to do. In that time I don't paint. I stare at paintings. Starting a weblog with -almost daily- small paintings is my answer to that "thinking-process". Because I feel that, no matter what, I should paint every day. When I paint every day, I will improve my skills, and it will make my paintings better. That is why I make these small oil paintings, it is a two or three hour exercise. I seem to have less problems doing small paintings. I use Oud-Hollandse Scheveningen and Amsterdam oil paint on board with three layers of midtone gesso.
