Immaculate

Immaculate

About this Artwork

In this painting I wanted to recreate a depiction of the Virgin Mary and the Immaculate Conception.

The painting is full of symbolic imagery, sourced from traditional paintings of the same subject, and, like my other work, symmetry.

The circle is a recurring shape, considered mathematically perfect, as well as a divine representation of the everlasting God.

I wanted to create a 'perfect' being with the figure; her many limbs a bi-product of genetic manipulation.  She is angelic, but also ghost-like and inhuman.

The pregnancy is echoed in the symbol of the dripping fruit, but it is unnatural, the wires in her stomach alluding to some techno-alien intervention, instead of divine.  The figure's face is dead, as if the thing inside is a parasite, devouring her soul.
