It is unique

Zangzu in the Chinese language is the meaning of Tibetan and xiangba is the transliteration of wood engraving from the Tibetan language. Those Tibetan wood engravings are the new Tibetan prints developed and created by Contemporary Artists on base of the traditional Tibetan culture. It is different from the traditional Tibetan Buddhist prints as well as modern rising prints.

Zangzuxiangba has the following artistic characteristics: taking line cutting as the base, taking traditional intense Tangka color as the main tone, fully absorbing indefinitely sufficient symbol and esthetical resources in the Tibetan art, and presenting strong nationality, regional and temporal characteristics as well as individual creation styles of artists.

The works not only have rich atmosphere of national culture, obvious regional characteristics and the public tastes, but also break through the esthetical modes of the traditional prints with brand-new creative concepts and visual forms. In addition, it realizes the surpassed deepening of the traditional Tibetan prints with independent, special and creative artistic language, and pushes the plural development of Chinese modern prints, thus having great operation significance and wide development prospect.

Zangzuxiangba takes a distinctive course on printing. For printing every works, an artist does not conduct simple repeated act, but changes its color according to his/her creative thought to enrich the works and enhance its artistic expression. Every works is irreproducible and unique. Meanwhile, continuous probe and creation are paid to the application of pigment and paper. The skillful application of various materials and the updating of the treatment approaches become a new form of expression as well as one factor enlightening the artist: the painting pigment for Zangzuxiangba adopts the natural ores and plant raw materials which is produced on snow-covered plateau and characterized by pure color, high quality, good light fastness, strong weather resisting property, fast coloring and gorgeous but not ordinary hue; the paper for Tibetan wood engraving is Tibetan paper taking radix stellerae chamaejasmes and agilawood produced on snow-covered plateau as raw materials and manually manufactured by scores of procedures, thus having such properties as corrosion protection, mothproof property and dampproof property. When printing works, the artist should skillfully combine the expressing modes of lines and coloring with the special texture, concavo convex, depth and thickness of Tibetan paper, thus enhancing the artistic expression of the prints and rendering the works of "Zangzuxiangba" with unique characteristics.
