Small Objects Of Desire

09:53 on Monday 10th May '10

I've invited people to take part in my next art work series: Small Objects of Desire. Following on from my "Favourite Places" series, in which I created "visual poems" from my memories of people's stories about their favourite places. I asked people to bring along a small object with meaning for them - with a story attached. I've taken pictures of the people with their objects and I intend to create work from these images.

EFO Trans>Form Photography Show.

The EFO has a wide range of artists and crafts people as Members and a number of these use photography in their creative work.

In 2009 we got together to form the EFO Photography Group, with a view to presenting a themed body of photograpic work.

We're pleased to be able to announce a show of our work, all of it based on the theme of: "Trans>Form". The show will start it's life as a mini-Open House in March 2010 and then travel to other venues in and around London. Details and map of venues here.

The artists showing will be: Francesca Albini, Brigitt Angst, Yulia Badian, Mike Coles, Jane Higgison, Karen Fraser, El Glinoer, David Godny, Adam Justice-Mills, Peter Kyte, Myra Lawson, James Ludgate, Luke Potter, Lucie Varekova, Eti Wade, David Waller, Katie Wheaton

Their work will be on sale at the shows, with a selection shown in the book of the show (which is available at the show houses or to order online).

Adam E Justice-Mills

Adam Justice-Mills uses paint, photos and pixels, creating abstract layered pictures, concentrating on recalled movement, structure and colour. Adam's earlier works in both drawing and photography were highly figurative landscapes and portraits.

Over time, they became more interesting to him as he forgot their context but remembered the emotional significance he attaches to them. What interests him about memories is how they work - what triggers recollection and association of ideas, how much can we remember from a tiny stimulus, why do we remember some things and not others, what makes some things important to remember.

His "memory" drawing series are pen & pastel on paper. They are his exploration of how we form and recall an impression of something or someone, how their significance can be undiminished despite the forgetting of details. The relationship between the artist's memory and the subject is brought out through the repetition of a drawn line, based on a recalled pose or performance.

Adam has recently taken his interest in memory and applied it to his  photographic work. He has created two series of "Visual Poems", inspired by people's favourite places or important objects.
