Terrace

Terrace

The paintings are stimulated from the langworthy road area of salford where the terraced houses have been abandoned either for demolition or development, and the fact that the area has under gone so many changes throughout its history. a strange environment has been created where somebody's once home has now become derelict, and given a colour code by the council either instructing demolition, improve existing etc... on a proposed regeneration map.

The paintings are made by continually painting over paint to create an individual history for that painting. the work develops by making considered decisions that are more often than not controlled mistakes that later alter to play a major part in the make-up of the painting. quality of surface then takes over from the initial observed fact and by manipulating the visual fact with paint it then transforms into an independent object having been designed to personal specifications. layering the paint deals with past lines and edges- rather than disappear they relocate themselves in relation to new surfaces that motivates an ambiguity towards dominate colours and textures. dividing the canvas in two separates a plain of colour that allows the method and process beneath the facade to be noticed. the line, produced by the two rectangle canvas's holds the volume of colour and texture to the space it sits and acts as a foundation for the painting to be perceived.

The paintings are derived from observations taken from my daily environment. some of the work develops by layering types of paint, oil, acrylic gloss etc... inventing possibilities that together define a façade. other work is simply reflecting the derelict state of the houses. the layered paint deals with past lines, textures and edges that rather than disappear, relocate themselves in relation to new surfaces. this constantly alters the surface quality to play a major part in the make-up of the painting, creating a journey and history to gain its own identity.
